HYPNOSIS - Questions & Answers

What is the difference between hypnotherapy and psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy (which I do not provide) is the diagnosis and conversational treatment of mental disease.  Hypnotherapy (which I do provide) is the use of trance and suggestion to improve general self-control and maintain a positive mental attitude.

How will I be hypnotized?
I use a variety of proven induction methods.  Through the use of words and suggestions you will be guided into trance.  You will become relaxed and comfortable, but not asleep.  Suggestions are then directed to the subconscious part of your mind to neutralize the negative habits and replace them with positive habits and reactions.

How will I know I'm hypnotized?
You will learn what hypnosis feels like.  Everyone experiences hypnosis uniquely.  Some people feel a relaxed heaviness or a pleasant calm, others may feel like they're floating. It may be a subtle experience, as it was for me when I was first hypnotized.

I am strong-willed.  Can I be hypnotized?
Yes.  Strong-willed individuals or those who like to feel in control can use hypnosis confidently.

Will I be unconscious and tell my secrets while in hypnosis?
No.  At all times you'll be conscious and in control, aware of everything that's being said and going on around you.  You will not disclose any secrets you would not normally disclose.  Hypnosis isn't a truth serum.

What are post-hypnotic suggestions?
These are suggestions that address your specific goal.  They continue to help you after the hypnosis session.
Example: you have no desire to smoke anymore; you will choose healthy foods; you are confident and in control.

Can I be made to do something against my will?
No.  A hypnotist cannot make you do something you don't want to do.  Hypnosis is a consent state.  Although I guide you into the hypnotic state, the ability to be hypnotized rests within you;  you are always in control.

Can I get "stuck" in hypnosis?
Absolutely not. You can discontinue the hypnotic state at any time.  Since you are in control of your hypnotic experience, there is no difficulty in bringing yourself out of hypnosis.

How many sessions will I need?
In most cases, new clients who require private hypnosis are scheduled for a program of 3 sessions (scheduled weekly).  Additional sessions may be helpful depending on the individual client.  Results are more pronounced with multiple sessions.

Are the results guaranteed?
Results cannot be guaranteed.  Client's results depend on their willingness and desire to make positive changes in their life.

How much does hypnotherapy cost?

My fee is $95 per one-hour session.  For all scheduling options available to you please read

Will my health insurance cover the cost of hypnosis? Insurance plans do not usually cover the cost of hypnosis.  You are therefore responsible
for paying the fee.

"
I had my own misconceptions about hypnosis until I inquired about the subject from Bob Minaert, a certified clinical hypnotherapist and an old friend, and was sufficiently confident to ask him to use hypnotherapy to help me with a problem of insufficient sleep, some form of insomnia. His professional assistance has been a big help to me in dealing with my problem and I recommend him for inquiry into any number of problems for which hypnotherapy would be of help."
